Building Castles Out of Matchsticks is the musical diary of Anne Sulikowski.
Anne has been musical since she was a child and started noodling with electronics in her last year of high school. Since then, she has performed in many groups and duos, often sticking to improvised works and various forms of audio installations. She primarily uses synthesizers and many, many effects pedals and guitars…
Anne began Building Castles Out of Matchsticks, as a solo project in Winter 2000, to musically document and explore extraordinary events, dreams, her experience of love and lack of love, battles with introspection, her wildly vivid imagination, promises made and broken, random thoughts and all the simple pleasures and bursts of boredom in her everyday life… A musical diary of a wanderer…
Anne Sulikowski is a multi media artist who works in film, photography, textiles, upscaling
and painting. As a photographer, she drives around aimlessly and takes thousands of photos. She focuses mainly on rural photography, however, she can often be seen on photo shoots in an urban alleyway near you. Anne also makes films and creates music videos under the name “castle clips”. Her videos have been shown at the Queering Sound Festival in Washington, DC and at Mutek Electronic Festival in Montreal, Quebec.
Currently Anne works as a psychiatric nurse specializing in forensic psychiatry, and yes,
she still spends pretty much all of her time daydreaming, recording and wandering.
Magical Thinking is released by paper+sound on CD and is also available as a download release. Anne has produced several videos to accompany the album.
